FAQ:

  • Q: How much time will it take to tune my car?
  • A: There is a lot that goes into tuning a car and a lot of the time it takes depends on how well set up the car is. There are other factors as well that can eat up time such as: poor communication, bad internet service, incorrectly set up sensors, bad sensor data, improper wiring, undersized fuel system, poorly set up boost control, used parts that aren't working properly, etc. A typical engine without the above issues can take anywhere from 2-4 hours of time to get it starting, idling well, and get started on dialing in a fuel table. This can then move from a live tuning session to making adjustments with emailed logs and tune revisions (which take anywhere from 20-30 minutes each change).

  • Q: Why don't you charge one price for a tune?
  • A: Because in the 20+ years I have been professionally tuning, there has been an extremely wide spread on the amount of time and effort required to get a satisfactory tune completed on a given car. The amount it would take to have "one price" tune for stand alone tuning would be unfair for the people who have a well thought out, well executed project that requires minimal extra time to dial in, and reciprocally unfair to me for the people who have a project with every problem under the sun hoping that a poorly executed project can have all of its problems just "tuned out". The reality is that the latter types of projects often require extensive retuning each time a new problem is fixed.

  • Q: How does remote tuning work?
  • A: You have to have a decent internet connection where the vehicle to be tuned is for any live tuning, and a laptop that provides a stable connection to that internet service, as well as a stable connection to the vehicle. You will have to install a remote support software -- we typically use Anyviewer (free to use for the consumer), or Google Chrome Remote Desktop. We make appointments for live tuning M-F 8AM to 5PM Pacific Standard time typically, but special accommodations can be made for hours outside of these times, and weekends depending on customer requirements. The rates can increase for very odd hours and some weekend remote sessions.

  • Q: Do I have to use all of my tuning hours I've bought all at once?
  • A: No, we will track time used against the time you have paid for and let you know where you stand.

  • Q: Do I have to pay up front for tuning time?
  • A: Yes, I require payment before services are rendered in most cases. Existing customers that have a provent track record of promply paying open invoices may be given some alternative leeway on this policy.

  • Q: If you tune my car, and it later blows up, can I sue you?
  • A: No, by agreeing to purchase any tuning time from me, it is assumed for legal purposes you are agreeing to the above remote service waiver. I do everything within my ability to ensure your tune is safe and you will have years of use for your project by safely, and systematically approaching any limitations of the project. I communicate when I have concerns, but as with any effort to extract more power out of an engine than it was originally designed for: there is an inherent risk you assume in trying to approach performance limits for any given application. Sometimes those limits are stepped over, and that's when failures occur. That said, our track record is extremely positive with only a couple of failures due to pushing the tune too far out of the 20+ years of tuning vehicles professionally (these were in-house builds or our own projects where we knew the risks involved).
